INSPIRED AND DETERMINED
My name is Madelin Lillian McPhee and I am fashion Designer based out of New York City. I grew up in Connecticut with two loving parents and three supportive brothers. My father is a engineer and entrepreneur, and my mother is a retired fashion merchandiser and designer. At a young age, my father taught me determination and efficiency while my mother nurtured my creative side. I have always known fashion was my path, despite a brief thought of veterinary school in the third grade.
I went to a boarding school for my grade school years allowing me to become independent, organized and responsible at a young age. I attended University of Delaware in 2010 and immediately declared my major as Fashion and Apparel Design. I applied to a visitors program at the Fashion Institute of Technology and was accepted into the program. I came to New York City in 2012 and received my 1-year Associates Degree from FIT. That summer, I interned for Diane Von Furstenburg in her design offices. I experienced the organization of a fashion brand and the various departments involved in creating and producing clothing. During that year, I fell more deeply in love with design and my new city. I had to return to Delaware to finish my bachelors degree. With haste I graduated early in February 2014 with a Bachelors in Science, and returned immediately back to New York to start my career.
I got an internship at G-III Apparel group for Jessica Simpson’s dress line. After a few months, I was hired full time as a Assistant Designer. During my time at G-III I learned about business, production, and design that cannot be learned in school. That position fully immersed me in a corporate setting and allowed me to grow on a administrative level. I then made a career move to a smaller family owned brand, Adrianna Papell in 2015. I was promoted to an Associate Designer at Adrianna Papell and remained at the company for 3.5 years. April of 2019, I accepted a designer position at Elie Tahari collections. I work closely with Mr. Tahari and a very talented sample room. I was with Elie Tahari for a yar and participated in their last NYFW runway show. Unfortunately, my time at Elie Tahari was short due to the COVD-19 pandemic. I I went bac to my dress design roots during the pandemic joining The Levy Group. I was hired to design for BCBGeneration Dresses. In my time there, I took over Laundry and a new brand Sage Collective they were launching. I also did private label for BCBG Paris for Walmart. I chose to leave the Levy Group to dive into more elevated product designing for Marchesa Notte. After a year of working under a Design Director, I have become the Head of Department and sole Designer for Marchesa Notte. I am excited for my first season under my direction to come to market Fall 2024.
